For the project Steady Burn, YRD.Works built an 18 × 10 m walk-in timber platform on a former industrial site in Offenbach. Over several days, the artists and the visitors taking part in the project sawed it apart and burned it in a fire pit installed in the middle of the platform. In the process, the object consumed itself: the burn, lasting more than 89 hours, only ended when nothing remained of the platform but the glowing fire pit.

Throughout the entire period, the fire was kept going jointly by the artists and the participants. At night in particular, keeping the fire alive required some organisation, as those present took turns tending the fire pit and making sure that fresh wood was constantly added to keep it burning.

As the participants gathered around the fire, cooked and slept there, it became the warming centre of social togetherness. On the other side stood its destructive force, revealed in the destruction of the platform.

Another important level of the project was the visual representation of the action through a live stream. Four cameras installed above the platform filmed the events from a bird's-eye view throughout the entire period and streamed them to a dedicated website. What could be seen was a four-part, slowly changing polyptych: at the beginning of the action, the platform completely filled the four frames. As the action progressed, however, it shrank more and more, revealing ever larger parts of the ground. Steady Burn produced a dynamic image of a sculpture that continuously addressed its own finitude.
