Transition 1-7 was a temporary art project by YRD.Works that in 2024 addressed the transformation of the Offenbach harbour site for the future new building of the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG). Since 2016, the collective had used the site in a multi-year interim use for cultural events and exhibitions, above all in the Kressmann-Halle, which it ran. With the upcoming new building, the end of these activities and a radical structural upheaval were becoming apparent.

YRD.Works addressed this upheaval in seven experimental, public teaching events, embedded in Heiner Blum's teaching at the HfG. Workshops, talks and panels with invited experts looked back at what had happened and ahead to the future of the site. The spatial vehicle was a sculptural platform made of suggested prefabricated-house wall elements that appeared to have been casually put into storage on timber bearers. Every two weeks it moved to one of seven locations on the site, and the wall elements were rearranged for each event.

At each station the platform was photographed from above by drone, and the changed arrangement of the wall elements produced a new image each time. The seven images were assembled into an overall view of the site in which the sculpture can be seen at all locations simultaneously. Transition 1-7 is thus an attempt to create a transition in which past and future symbolically overlap.
